Attorney General's Department - corrupt offers of assistance to defendants by an officer of the Local Court Registry, Penrith (Operation Hunter)

The ICAC investigated whether an officer of the Local Court Registry at Penrith had sought money from defendants in proceedings before the Local Court and other persons in return for purported assistance in relation to those proceedings.

The ICAC's report on this investigation, made public on 28 February 2006, made findings of corrupt conduct against the officer and stated the opinion that consideration should be given to obtaining the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions with respect to the prosecution of the officer, and an associate, and that the Attorney-General's Department should consider disciplinary action against  the officer. Twelve corruption prevention recommendations were made to the Attorney-General's Department to address weaknesses in information security policies and systems.
